Welcome home.

At Clarence Village, we believe in a Clarence Valley where the aged live in safety and with dignity.

For over 50 years, we’ve been building a community that cares for

Our Mission

To build a community that cares for the aged by providing a home, connection and care.

Our Values

We put people first.

We listen with respect
We help those in need with compassion
We do what’s right not what’s easy, with integrity

Our History

New era, same values

We will always stay true to our roots as a community-owned organisation. Today, we continue to evolve as a modern, safe, and welcoming place for hundreds of residents and dozens of experienced staff. As the needs of our community change, so do we, but our values will always remain constant.

Clarence Village

Clarence Village began in the late 1960’s when a young Anglican minister suggested Grafton City Council should provide suitable housing for the elderly. Several community groups pooled their resources to answer the call and Clarence Village built its first independent living units in the 1970s. Today Clarence Village has around 100 independent living units across Grafton.

Clarence Village on Queen

In 2009, Clarence Village purchased a struggling supported living facility on Queen St in Grafton. In the years since taking over management of the facility, Clarence Village on Queen has become a vibrant community for its residents thanks to our dedicated and experienced team.

Dougherty Villa

In the early 1990s Clarence Village constructed a 40-bed hostel, Dougherty Villa, named in honour of Clarence Village's founding Chairman, Bill Dougherty OAM. Bill was instrumental in the creation and management of Clarence Village Limited, serving on the Board for an astonishing 48 years. As the needs of residents have changed, so Dougherty Villa has changed and grown, into a modern, comfortable and secure aged care community.
